Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have jointly announced a new oil discovery in the North Wafra Wara-Burgan field, located roughly 5 kilometers north of the Wafra field within the Partitioned Zone between the two nations.
In a joint statement, the governments confirmed that crude oil flowed from the Wara reservoir in the North Wafra (Wara-Burgan-1) well at a rate of over 500 barrels per day, with an API gravity ranging between 26 and 27 degrees.
This marks the first discovery since joint production resumed in mid-2020 in the Partitioned Zone and surrounding offshore areas, following a suspension of operations. The find signals renewed momentum in exploration efforts between the two Gulf countries.
Strategically, the discovery highlights the deepening energy partnership between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and underscores their status as dependable players in the global oil market. It also reflects both nations’ commitment to enhancing production capabilities and optimizing shared hydrocarbon resources in the region.
