BEIRUT – Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace in Beirut on Monday.
During the meeting, Al-Mashat reaffirmed Lebanon’s strategic importance within the United Nations system and highlighted ESCWA’s longstanding partnership with the country. She emphasized that Lebanon remains a key regional platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the exchange of ideas across the Arab world.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Lebanon and ESCWA in support of economic recovery, institutional development, and sustainable growth. Al-Mashat underscored the importance of investing in national institutions and human capital as essential pillars for long-term stability and prosperity.
President Aoun welcomed continued cooperation with international organizations and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to support Lebanon’s reform agenda and development priorities.
The meeting reflects ESCWA’s commitment to supporting member states in advancing economic resilience, regional cooperation, and sustainable development across the Arab region.
