Launched under the directives of Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the UAE Food Bank has unveiled its Ramadan campaign, “Bank of Goodness in the Month of Giving,” with an ambitious target of distributing eight million meals locally and internationally. The initiative operates under the umbrella of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and reinforces the UAE’s global humanitarian leadership during the Holy Month.

The campaign centres on five integrated initiatives designed to strengthen food security, minimise waste, and embed sustainability across the surplus food value chain.

The flagship “Charity Fridge” programme will see refrigerators placed in residential neighbourhoods in cooperation with Knowledge and Human Development Authority, enabling safe and organised donations of surplus iftar and suhoor meals. By streamlining community contributions, the initiative promotes responsible consumption while reinforcing social solidarity.

Complementing this is “My Home Without Waste,” an awareness drive that leverages chef influencers to encourage households to adopt smarter food storage and reuse practices. The programme targets homemakers and working women with practical guidance to reduce daily food waste and foster long-term behavioural change.

Through “Meer Al Khair,” the Bank will distribute essential food parcels to families in need, ensuring stability during Ramadan. Volunteers and partners play a central role in assembling and delivering these packages, reflecting a coordinated and sustainable charitable framework.

“Zabeel Iftar” will host a large-scale communal iftar for workers at Zabeel Park, underscoring the values of inclusion, compassion, and shared responsibility that define the UAE’s Ramadan initiatives.

Meanwhile, the “Recycle, Re-life” initiative, launched in partnership with Ne’ma, introduces a circular approach to food management. Edible surplus from hotels will be redistributed to beneficiaries, while inedible waste will be converted into organic compost through collaboration with ReLoop by Ecyclex. The model supports national food security objectives and contributes to reducing carbon emissions.

By integrating public-private partnerships, community engagement, and innovative waste management solutions, the campaign advances the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051 and strengthens Dubai’s position as a global hub for sustainable humanitarian action.
